Overall a solid place for dim sum when you’re craving classic Hong Kong flavors. Would come back to try more dishes next time. Rice noodle roll with crispy fritter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Soft rice noodle wrapped around a crispy youtiao, with fresh shrimp and bits of celery inside. Great texture contrast between soft and crunchy. Highly recommend. Purple sweet potato lava balls ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Crispy on the outside with a creamy custard filling inside. Perfect as a small dessert after the meal. Garlic pea shoots ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very fresh and nicely cooked, though slightly under-seasoned. Bean curd rolls ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beef balls ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Both were very good, but portions are filling, so ordering one of the two is probably enough. Chive dumplings ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wrapped in egg crepe with shrimp filling. Less chive flavor than expected, but still tasty. Beef tripe ⭐⭐ A bit over-steamed, so the texture lost its chewiness. Flavor was still okay.

The staff at Hong Kong Bistro are really friendly, cheerful, and easy to talk to. Most of the food is delicious, though the fried taro today was a bit greasy. One big plus: the staff were so kind and even replaced it for me—definitely appreciated!

This was my first time visiting Hong Kong Bistro in Chinatown, and my first impression was “wow” … the place was packed and very lively. It was definitely crowded, but that just added to the energy of the restaurant. The staff were very nice and accommodating, even with how busy it was. The menu offers a lot of options to choose from, especially for dim sum. Ordering is done by marking how many portions you want on the paper they provide, which is simple and easy once you get the hang of it. There are paid street parking options as well as a nearby parking lot, which is helpful in a busy area like Chinatown. Overall, it was a great first experience and a spot I’d come back to.

Good experience! It was busy night but there's plenty of tables and no wait time. Service was quick and courteous: food arrived promptly. I thought the Duck vermicelli was too salty, noodles undercooked and hard, and duck meat wasn't that great; but the shrimp with chives dumpling was fantastic (and huge too). Would return here without hesitation.

Three out of four dishes ordered were not bad - the XO sauce beef chow fun, peking style pork chop, and the salt and pepper shrimp. I would say average tasting Cantonese. But when you name your restaurant Hong Kong Bistro, you’d definitely expect better. Maybe the dim sum is better, didn’t have any since it was dinner time. We also ordered a Tofu in spicy sour “yu heung” sauce (魚香豆腐）- the dish came and was in an orange sweet and sour sauce. Absolutely terrible. No Yu Heung sauce is sweet and sour. When we commented to the server, we were just told this is how their restaurant serves it. When we again asked a second server she went on to argue with us that “Yu heung” sauce is always like this. I have eaten Chinese food my whole life and have never ever had yu heung sauce taste like sweet and sour pork. Instead of offering us to change the dish, she kept on arguing with us, like we had never had Chinese food before (my friend is from Taiwan, I am from Hong Kong, and I mean “from” as in we both lived there till adulthood and are both big foodies, we both go back several times a year to visit family and friends, but most importantly to eat. I think a good restaurant would’ve listened to the feedback and offer a substitution. They would have said we appreciate the feedback and will discuss with the chef instead of talking down to your customer. After much arguing, she finally agreed to just cancel the order from our bill. So, even though overall meal was ok, we probably will not go back again.
