Jay Shen 4 months agoSimply based on the authenticity alone, this place deserves a 5 star even if some dishes taste better than others. Most of the dishes tasted amazingly authentic. They were very quick at serving dishes as well, which was a plus. The overall vibe is like back home in China, and the fact that it's located on Eat Street in Minneapolis also gives it extra points on deserving a visit. Since I have ordered so many dishes, and they all represent the authentic flavors from China instead of novelty creations, I won't talk about how well they tasted, but will simply name a few dishes that I felt like were especially amazing that customers in general need to try: Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles (担担面), Chongqing Spicy Noodles (重庆小面), Century Egg with Silken Tofu (皮蛋豆腐), Braised Beef Noodles (红烧牛肉面), Lanzhou Beef Noodles (兰州牛肉拉面), Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil (红油抄手), and Cumin Lamb Sandwich (孜然羊肉夹馍). Honestly even for the dishes I didn't mention, they were quite great as well. The only dishes that I thought were merely okay were the following: Lamb Noodles in Soup (羊肉烩面) and Milk Egg with Fermented Rice Soup (鸡蛋牛奶醪糟). Overall I do think the dishes don't have enough meat ingredients and too many noodles, but that wasn't uncharacteristic of Chinese restaurants in general, so I was okay with it. Once again, the main highlight of this place was how authentic the food was in representing what one could have from China. The only item I am dying to try, which I hope they'll put back on the menu upon having the appropriate chef to make it, is the Tongguan-style cumin lamb sandwich (潼关孜然羊肉夹馍), as they didn't have it everytime that I visited.
Hua Xing 6 months agoThe noodles were authentic, and I loved how you can see them hand pulling the noodles through a glass window. The staff was friendly and the food was served fairly quickly. I loved the vibes of the restaurant. The menu selection is really nice. I highly recommend the place! Prices are pretty good for such a good noodle restaurant! It's around $20 after tax and tip per person.
Emily Chaney 7 months agoWhat a welcome new offering in the former Bad Waitress space. Noodles here are not surprisingly the feature, but they exceeded our already somewhat high expectations. Scallion pancakes are not to be missed, soup broths were rich and flavorful, service was friendly and dishes arrived really quickly—a bonus on a frigid winter night. (Great to see this place was already full and busy on a cold Wednesday!) Portion sizes are VERY generous, especially considering our entrees topped out at $17 for what will easily be two servings each. Bring a crowd and share a bunch. 🍜
M 3 months agoEven though my review is good/positive. I didn't actually care for the noodles I got. They were high quality enough, but I chose based on the name without knowing what it was. I've never had Lanzhou style noodles before, so I tried it ($16.95). I was expecting more meaty, salty, savory, whereas it's a sweet tomato flavor. I was thinking stir-fried noodles would be drier, this was a wetter dish. Not packed with chicken. The cumin lamb sandwich ($7.95) was quite simple, yet I enjoyed it. The meat was what I was expecting and nicely seasoned. Clearly popular place, especially with the White crowd. Parking is a little annoying.
Tovin S 6 months agoPleasant and yummy experience. We got three dishes, although none of them were as spicy as we expected (or hoped) despite some being labeled as spicy. But adding chili oil really saved the experience, and thankfully they provide soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil on every table. The hand pulled noodles were great, and it was fun to be able to see the kitchen through the window on the wall. Service was absolutely great, the wait staff was kind and friendly, we never were without anything, and I have no complaints about the price. There aren't many places in the Twin Cities where two people can get a meal plus appetizer for under $50 when all is said and done. Would recommend and go again. Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil (5/5) Lanzhou Stir-Fried Noodles (4/5) Beijing Zhajiang Noodles (3/5)
