Nataliia “NSH” Chernysh a month agoThis establishment falls far short of the standard of a restaurant-lounge; rather, it resembles an inexpensive street café situated in a basement. I was seated at a wobbly table, forcing me to keep my left elbow suspended in mid-air throughout the entire dinner. The upholstery on the chair I sat on was cracked. Yes, there was plenty of staff, but for some reason, all the employees were scurrying frantically across the dining hall—and seemingly doing so without any purpose whatsoever. As soon as I was seated, a teapot of black tea—brewed from tea bags—was immediately placed on the table; when I asked, "Is this green tea?" I received a negative reply. I consider myself a connoisseur of various tea varieties, yet the beverage in that pot turned out to be completely tasteless. I had been dreaming of eating fried fish, or failing that, fish in sweet-and-sour sauce. Alas: aside from crab, lobster, and salmon, there were no other fish dishes to be found on the menu. Shortly thereafter, a waiter swiftly approached with a plate of crab; he set it down abruptly—turning only halfway toward me as he did so—and immediately rushed off to the neighboring table with an identical portion of crab. Suddenly, another waiter sharply intercepted him, pointing out that this order was not intended for me. He then turned to me and asked, "Is this *your* order?" I was utterly dumbfounded, but I confirmed: yes, it was indeed my order. Such a level of service came as a genuine shock to me! Immediately afterward, both waiters hurriedly departed together! As for the crab itself... One gets the impression that the crab had been painstakingly coaxed into becoming a work of art, only to be subsequently drowned in a deep fryer. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't any tastier than the crab legs served at all-you-can-eat buffets costing $23–30 per person. The tableware was cheap, and the tea was low-quality—not even loose-leaf—and barely warm; moreover, the dining hall in the basement was incredibly noisy (people come here in search of authentic Chinese cuisine, yet the place bore absolutely no resemblance to Qiqihar, Hailar, or—least of all—Harbin). The price I paid for this dinner turned out to be unjustifiably high (I ended up spending $100). The waiters struck me as just ordinary guys—completely untrained in the high-caliber service one expects from a decent restaurant. My hopes for a pleasant, quiet dinner were completely dashed. My apologies.
RS Schaffr 2 months agoR&G Lounge (San Francisco) * Food Quality (Freshness & Taste): * Dishes are consistently prepared using high-quality, fresh ingredients. * Flavors are well-balanced and authentic, reflecting traditional Cantonese cuisine. * Signature items (e.g., seafood dishes) stand out for both taste and presentation. * Pricing: * Menu prices are on the higher end compared to similar establishments in the area. * Portion sizes and quality help justify the cost, though it may not be ideal for budget-conscious diners. * Service: * Staff are attentive, professional, and responsive to customer needs. * Service is efficient even during peak dining hours. * Team demonstrates strong product knowledge and provides helpful recommendations. * Ambience & Environment: * Spacious dining area allows for comfortable seating and a relaxed experience. * Cleanliness is well-maintained throughout the restaurant. * Atmosphere is lively yet organized, suitable for both family gatherings and group dining. * Overall Impression: * A high-quality dining destination offering excellent food and reliable service. * Best suited for those seeking a premium Chinese dining experience. * Highly recommended for special occasions or when prioritizing food quality over cost.
ASHOUSTON a month agoStopped in here earlier this year (Jan 2026). Was staying in the area and found this via a quick internet search. Reservations required. Place is popular and busy with locals and tourists. Almost a tourist trap as well. The place was packed. The food was perfect and service good and attentive. The dishes were perfectly aligned to the theme and charm. There were many things to try and choose from. I would recommend this place, but be mindful it will be crowded. Good dining otherwise. Ideally authentic and the fact that it is popular with the SFO natives especially those from the surrounding area is a testament to the genuine place it is.
Jessica T. 6 months agoDefinitely going back if I’m in SF. If you ever wondered what kind of Chinese restaurants are good and authentic this place is. You know it’s legit when a group of Chinese family are waiting to be seated. Food wise no brainer get the eggplant and shrimp. Only if you like eggplant. On a cold night get the beef winter melon soup. Warms you up instantly. Dungeness crab may be a miss you dont mind dinging in for the meat.
Y.C. Wu a month agoI arrived around 1-2pm on a weekday afternoon, and the restaurant was packed. I ordered salt and pepper fried crab (~$80), steamed lobster with garlic (~$80) and snow pea tips, and all of them were fresh delicious. Highly recommended!
